Manager of the component ‘Building the capacities of local peace actors’

Job description **

The Promotion of Peace and Stability project aims to build the capacities of local and international actors to contribute to non-violent development in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is incorporated into the International Security and Stabilisation Support Strategy (ISSSS). Field of activity 1 aims to strengthen the Stabilisation Support Unit (SSU) and other ISSSS actors in order to improve integration of local perspectives into the implementation of the ISSSS.

Field of activity 2 aims to strengthen the capacities of local actors to prevent violence. The project works to achieve this (a) by building the capacities of radio stations that address peacebuilding topics (freedom from violence, gender), (b) by promoting local NGOs via an action learning programme on similar issues, and (c) via a leadership programme for young adults. **

Your tasks

  • Steering and implementing field of activity 2, with a technical focus on radio programmes and action learning by local organisations;

  • Selecting the radio stations to be supported, organising training courses for radio journalists, providing advice on and supporting the creation of programme content, identifying technical requirements;

  • Setting up and supporting the action learning programme (selection mechanism, processes, etc.), which includes networking closely with local organisations and people, providing technical advice, monitoring, organising training courses;

  • Possibly setting up and supporting the scholarship programme;

  • Managing the national specialist advisors in the field of activity;

    responsibility for M&E of the entire project;

  • Assisting the officer responsible for the commission with management of

    the entire project, especially with regard to planning, reporting, monitoring and knowledge management.

Your profile

  • University graduate in social sciences (political sciences, development studies) or a similar course of study;

  • Several years of professional experience in the field of gender empowerment, peacebuilding, prevention of violence and/or promotion of civil society, ideally in sub-Saharan Africa;

  • Knowledge/experience of gender empowerment and local peacebuilding via radio programmes or similar media would be desirable;

  • Sound knowledge of civil society in the sub-Saharan context would be desirable;

  • Very good management and networking skills; fluent command of French and very good knowledge of English;

  • Very good knowledge of German would be an advantage;

  • Experience in working with GIZ's processes and instruments would be an

    advantage.
