Gender Director, Democratic Republic of Congo
We are currently seeking long-term Gender Director for an upcoming USAID-funded agricultural value chain project in Eastern Congo. The project will use a market-systems approach to increase the competitiveness of high potential, nutrient-rich value chains through support for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets. The project will improve livelihoods for agricultural communicates by creating inclusive economic growth, improving food security, and support women, youth and other disenfranchised groups within a five year period.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all gender activities under the project contract and will closely collaborate with all other partners involved.
- Advise the program in developing strategies and plans to improve the economic participation rate of women and systemic changes within the labor force.
- Strengthen service data/monitoring to ensure that gender inequities are tracked and appropriate response strategies are implemented; organize/support regular monitoring among local districts, NGO/CBO partners, and service providers; analyze and report on program and project progress.
- Ensure that gender program components are results-oriented.
- Prepare and conduct trainings on gender topics for staff and beneficiaries.
- Collaborate with other staff to ensure gender is integrated properly throughout the program areas and is in accordance with USAID’s gender strategy.
Qualifications:
- A university degree in sociology, gender studies, economics, agriculture economics or a related field required
- 10 years or more of progressively responsible work experience demonstrating experience conducting gender analysis and gender integration programming, including with on-the-ground participatory approaches to research.
- Experience in DRC, particularly Eastern Congo
- Understanding of USAID’s youth, gender, and value chain techniques and approaches
- Experience with USAID-funded projects preferred.
- French fluency and English proficiency required.
