Agricultural Production Systems Director, Democratic Republic of Congo
We are currently seeking a long-term Agricultural Production Systems Director for an upcoming USAID-funded agricultural value chain project in Eastern Congo. The project will use a market-systems approach to increase the competitiveness of high potential, nutrient-rich value chains through support for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets. The project will improve livelihoods for agricultural communicates by creating inclusive economic growth, improving food security, and support women, youth and other disenfranchised groups within a five year period.
Responsibilities:
- Develop the capacity of producers in DRC to identify and respond to domestic and regional business opportunities in target value chains.
- Facilitate the development of inclusive supply chains linking producers to value added markets in DRC and the region.
- Pilot and scale-up commercially viable agricultural service delivery and extension models.
- Oversee all agronomic training and dissemination of new practices and technologies including conservation farming protocols, GAP and post-harvest handling practices.
- Inform the development and uptake of production finance tools.
Qualifications:
- M.S., M.B.A., or other post-graduate degree in agronomy, agribusiness, business administration or other relevant field.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant and progressive work experience in developing countries, in the area of agronomy, agribusiness, and/or agricultural trade and investment.
- Proven knowledge of production and agribusiness systems in DRC
- Excellent communication skills for a wide audience of stakeholders.
- Fluent French, and proficiency in English required.
