Head of Project (m/f)

in Bunia

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until August 31, 2019. Employment location will be Bunia, DR Congo.

The ECHO funded project is part of the humanitarian response to mass displacement in Ituri province. It provides assistance to returnees by restoring their livelihoods while also supporting IDPs via a WASH component and cash based assistance. The aim of the position is to manage and ensure implementation of the project on the basis of specified terms of content, schedule and budget.

Your responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the implementation of multi-sectorial programming with the focus on Food Security, Livelihoods, Cash Based Assistance and WASH
  • Assure compliance with donor and WHH standards and regulations
  • Prepare status reports as well as monthly updates and activity summary
  • Continue project and proposal development
  • Define and regularly update, in close collaboration with the Country Director, strategic response to emergencies
  • Carry out ongoing analysis of the social, political and humanitarian situation of the region and evaluate the risks undertaken by WHH in the field
  • Initiate and oversee emergency assessments
  • Contribute to the Country and Regional Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning

  • Implement emergency preparedness activities

  • Provide leadership to the project team(s) in line with Welthungerhilfe values, corporate culture and leadership principles

  • Provide training on assessments, the use of Digital Data gathering Tools and Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Liaise with humanitarian actors, donors and relevant government bodies

  • Participate in coordination meetings which are relevant to humanitarian and/or emergency programming

  • Ensure the project is represented in and actively participates in all relevant Clusters and coordinate closely with all humanitarian actors

  • Ensure all programming to be in line with the Core Humanitarian Standards and SPHERE Standards

  • Ensure application and compliance of security protocols and policies and monitor the security situation to inform the Country Director of any changes or potential security risks

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnical degree preferably in the area of Humanitarian Assistance, Agriculture, Water Engineering or related fields
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in humanitarian assistance and emergency response in at least 2 of the following sectors: Food Security, Livelihoods, Cash Based Assistance and WASH
  • Five years overseas professional experience, preferably in a crisis region whereof three years in project management
  • Proven experience in Project Cycle Management and familiarity with the humanitarian coordination structures
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbally and in writing), including diplomacy in interaction with authorities
  • Coordination and strong planning skills, including the ability to work and deliver under pressure
  • Fluency in English and French (oral and writing) is mandatory, Swahili language skills are desirable but not compulsory
