We are searching for…

The Institutional Learning Team (ILT) sits at the heart of the organization. The Team comprises the Vice President of Programs, a Director of DM&E, four Regional DM&E Specialists, DM&E Coordinators/Associates, and the DME for Peace Project Manager, and is constantly growing.

ILT is a fun team to be part of and undertakes work that spans the full spectrum of projects in the organization. ILT works across every program at Search for Common Ground either on Design, Monitoring & Evaluation (DME) related issues or on learning and cross-fertilization related themes.

The ILT associate is supervised by the Regional Design, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist for East, Central and Southern Africa, Search Research Associate will support Search’s Research Work in Central Africa.

The ILT associate will be based in one of the Search for Common Ground Country office in DRC with frequent travels within the country. The ILT Research Associate should be ready to begin work, on site in Bukavu, Goma or Kalemie, in August 2018 and to commit to working for Search full-time in the Search for Common Ground on the basis of a year-long contract (with possibility of renewal).

Your contribution

The roles and responsibilities include:

The Research Associate will be responsible for supporting the quality of conflict analysis and conflict monitoring for a complex portfolio of about 20 projects in the DRC and in CAR. Working with the DME team in-country and the Regional Program Manager, the Research Associate will support the whole cycle of research, including planning, tool design, data collection and analysis, report writing and review. S/he will also support other special projects as needed.

The primary tasks and responsibilities of the ILT Research Associate for Central Africa will be to:

  • Key area 1: To set a clear standard for quality, sustainable and effective DME systems across Central Africa

  • Support DM&E teams in the design of quality conflict analysis and conflict monitoring;

  • Support DME Teams with the quality of conflict analysis and conflict monitoring data collection and analysis;

  • Support DME Teams with the quality of conflict analysis and conflict monitoring report writing.

  • Key area 2: To build Search's thought leadership in the field of peacebuilding with a body of evidence stemming from innovative methodologies and effective DME practices

  • Identify key components of conflict analysis and conflict monitoring research that are most important for organizational learning;

  • Think creatively about new conflict analysis and conflict monitoring methods adapted to the DRC and CAR context which can strengthen the internal learning and can best support DME teams to speak to changes;

  • Support the use of innovative methodologies and technologies in conflict analysis and conflict monitoring research and other research;.

  • Conduct special conflict analysis and conflict monitoring project as needed

  • Key area 3: To equip Search staff to articulate the organization’s leadership in learning based on solid knowledge of results and evidence from our programming and DME practice

  • Support conflict analysis and conflict monitoring research on cutting edge issues, thematic issues, best practices, and lessons learned;

  • Support the sharing of research results at the regional and international level;

  • Support country team with internal learning, including in the organization of reflection workshop.

You are…

You meet the following qualifications:

  • Education and/or relevant work experience in conflict analysis and conflict monitoring research methods in international development, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or other related fields (graduate level preferred);
  • Excellent written and oral skills in both French and English – ability to draft, edit, and proof-read in both languages;
  • Experience in data gathering and conflict analysis and conflict monitoring research training;

  • Good computer skills (including Word, Excel, various Web 2.0 tools).
