NRC has been present in DR Congo since 2001 and currently runs operations in the eastern provinces of North & South Kivu, Province Orientale and Kasai, with offices in Goma, Bukavu, Beni, Bunia and Kananga. The programme has an annual turnover of approximately NOK 140 mill. (2016). The DR Congo operation responds to populations affected by conflict and displacement. We reached 381.342 individuals in 2016 with education, food security, ICLA, WASH/shelter and emergency response.
We are now looking for an experienced Area Manager-Emergency Response, who will be responsible for implementation of emergency response in new areas and with mobile teams/capacities.
The Area Manager reports to the Country Director.
Job description Assess needs, develop emergency response- and implement response plans
Responsible for implementation of emergency response interventions in new areas and through mobile teams/capacities
Supervise and support the implementation of the pilot project of protection and humanitarian mediation
Develop a robust setup and ensure a consistent emergency response program in the area in line with an integrated, holistic program with the community approach
Supervise the setup of field offices and their implementation in emergency response
Line management for senior project staff and support functions in the area
Member of the Country Management Group (CMG)
Provide area specific input on Core Competency strategies, Country Strategy and Plan of Action
Organize grants opening and closure meetings at area level
Represent NRC, and networking on area level
Ensure that capacity building is provided to all staff in the area
Ensure overall security and safety of staff in the area
Qualifications Minimum 3 years of experience from working as a Senior Project Manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Experience from emergency setup
Fluency in English and French, both written and verbal
Knowledge of the context in DRC

- Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions and free housing of moderate standard.

- Duty station: Goma, with frequent travels (50%) within the area. International staff are required to live in joint accomodation
