RTI is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Agronomic Specialist position on an anticipated USAID-funded Feed the Future Democratic Republic of Congo Kivu Value Chain Activity. The goal of the activity is to increase household incomes and access to nutrient rich crops by linking small holder farmers to strengthened and inclusive value chains and supportive market services. USAID anticipates a five year period of performance with a total estimated cost range of $22-24 million. Preferred candidates will have specific experience in agricultural value chain development in the DRC. This position will be located in Bukavu, South Kivu, DRC.

Responsibilities:

· Contribute to the development of project strategy for increasing productivity of Kivu coffee farmers

· Provide assistance to increase the competitiveness of key actors in the coffee value chain to facilitate production, processing and export of quality coffee

· Use established best practices for value chain and market systems development.

· Support interventions to address key constraints or opportunities to support greater efficiencies and market access.

· Support the capacity building of key market actors, including coffee cooperatives

· Liaise with international and local scientists, including universities, to incorporate research into project activities

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s-level degree in agronomy, agricultural economics, or agribusiness field preferred.

· Minimum 6 years’ experience

· Prior experience working in North or South Kivu (DRC residence preferred)

· Demonstrated technical expertise in coffee production

· Demonstrated understanding of constraints in the coffee value chain in Kivu

· Proven ability to build relationships and cultivate partnerships with coffee industry and private sector actors

· Reputation for professional excellence (as evidenced by references and achievements).

· Strong written communication and effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills.

· Experience working on international donor-funded development projects preferred.

· Language Ability: Oral and written fluency in French and English required; Proficiency in local language(s) preferred.
